Haunted sights and sounds from Salem

(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Salem, Mass.) - There could be 100,000 people here for fun and fright.

City leaders hope they'll all be safe this Halloween night.

"Hi Billy Mays here with Salem pedi cab, where can we take you? Anywhere in town."

"I'm Martha Washington"

"Ha Ha," said PeeWee Herman.

"It was a tough save and I blew it, so they beat me up," said Jonathan Papelbon.

Billy, Martha, Peewee, and Pap - all on the streets of Salem, Mass.

Tens of thousands in the Witch City on All Hallow's Eve.

Little ones may have slept through the party, but the big kids aren't ready to leave.

There was Letterman, Gumby, a pack of crayons.

A dog dressed up and a Luigi dance.

This witch comes every year, wouldn't miss one.

"Cause I just love it, I think it's so much fun," said the witch.

This couple moved up from Florida, they couldn't be away.

"We're here, this is it, this is where we're going to stay," a costumed Keith Humphrey said.

As night fell in Salem, the moon was out.

The crowds grew and started to shout.

Police from around the North Shore were on alert.

To keep these costumed officers in line, safe, and unhurt.

In fact, fines are tripled to $300 a piece.

For litter, vandals, and booze on the streets.

And after it all, the fun has to stop.

Last train leaves at 11 o'clock.

So safe to say people are having fun here.

As for

me, I dressed as a reporter again this year.
