Farewell to the Fiddler

(NECN: Leslie Gaydos, Boston, Mass.) - The Tony award-winning musical "Fiddler on the Roof" is in Boston for a two-week run at the Boston Opera House.

The legendary Topol, who made the role of Tevye famous in the 1972 Oscar-nominated film, is on stage again in his farewell tour.

Now 74, Topol's booming voice is as strong as ever.

He's performed "Fiddler on the Roof" so many times, he stopped counting after 2500 shows.

"For me, it's the story of my family," Topol said. "So it's sort of commementorating my ancestors every night."]

Topol first performed the role when he was in his 20s. Despite playing the character for decades, Topol said he is not bored with it.

"Fiddler on the Roof" appears now through Nov. 15 at the Boston Opera House. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster.
