(NECN) - Transportation officials have reopened the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge on Monday.

The span has been closed for nearly six days for emergency repairs.

Two rods and a crossbar failed last week, sending 5,000 pounds of metal into rush-hour traffic.

Officials with the California Department of Transportation announced that repair work was done, tests have been completed and the bridge was safe for vehicles once again.
