(NECN/KWTV) - We've all heard of drivers colliding with deer on the roadway. Or maybe even a moose in northern New England.
But one Oklahoma couple has a story no one can duplicate.
The Carpenters were driving home from church on Wednesday night when they nearly drove into an escaped circus elephant.
The driver swerved his car at the last second to avoid the 4500 lb. animal but still sideswiped it, causing damage to the side of the car.
The 29-year old elephant sustained minor injuries to his leg and tusk, but will be OK.
Officials said he escaped when he was spooked while being loaded onto a truck.
