MBTA information? There could soon be an app for that!

(NECN: Ted McEnroe) - The MBTA was a little slow to come to the Google Transit party, but now you can plot your public transit commute on Google, and you may soon have access to an MBTA application for your iPhone or Blackberry.

The T and the state's other regional transit providers are working with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation to make their real-time data available in file formats that developers can use to create applications for mobile devices. The story got some attention Monday, but it might be a little while before we see a fully-built application.

The new data joins a number of feeds already out there from local agencies, including regular status updates from the MBTA and data that shows you the wait times at state Registry of Motor Vehicles offices.

Speaking of data, if you're a weather nerd like me, I'll share with you my favorite hurricane tracking map du jour. It's from the site StormPulse, and not only is it easy to use, you can also in just one click see all the computer models for a given storm. (The models do seem to agree that Hurricane Bill will stay well off the New England coast,

which I'm OK with as well.)

And there's a new site worth watching. Emicus.com is striving to be a social media-driven site updated in real time with storm tracking information, and emergency information from the ground level. Users can download the site's iPhone app and be abel to post information on things like gas lines, emergency food distribution sites, and more. Site organizers say they're trying to build something that will help avoid the chaotic times before, during and after major storms.

One last note: we have announced the winners in Entertainment and Nightlife and Health and Wellness on the Cape Cod A List - 13 different categories, including Live Music Venue - the venerable Cape Cod Melody Tent, to Uptown Body in Falmouth, which won for Best Health Club, to Samuel Michael Salon in Falmouth for hair salon.
