U.S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty says two people from Maine have pleaded guilty to federal charges of bringing a 13-year-old Massachusetts girl to Maine to engage in prostitution.
Court documents indicated Shawn Calhoun of Lewiston and Alvin Houston of Auburn traveled to Boston, where they drove the girl to hotels in the area to engage in prostitution in December. Officials say they were arrested when they drove the girl to Bangor, Maine, to meet a client who turned out to be a law enforcement officer.
The two pleaded guilty Wednesday and will be sentenced at a later date.
Both defendants face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for transporting an individual in interstate commerce with the intent that she engage in prostitution.
