A Maine man is accused of murdering a woman who lived with him.

Maine State Police announced that Philip Clark, 55, has been arrested and charged with murder amid a homicide investigation in Hampden.

Hampden police officers responded to 557 Kennebec Road on Thursday night for a welfare check, which launched the homicide investigation, according to state police.

The name of the murdered woman has not been released. Her body has been taken to the state's medical examiner's office in Augusta for an autopsy, which police said is expected to be completed by Saturday.

Investigators were still at the scene on Friday afternoon, and could be there through Saturday, state police said.

It's unclear if Clark has an attorney or when he'll be arraigned. He's currently being held at Penobscot County Jail.
