An Abington, Massachusetts, man who allegedly asked officers what he had to do to "get shot by the police" after leading them on a high-speed chase through several Massachusetts towns is being held without bail.
Police say 28-year-old Michael Leblanc is charged with attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned in Wrentham District Court Thursday morning and is being held without bail until a dangerousness hearing Tuesday.
The chase began shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday when police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on an earthen dam in Walpole. After allegedly refusing to provide his license and registration, he drove off. A responding officer was pinned to Leblanc's car and dragged for about 100 yards before freeing himself.
Police pursued Leblanc through Norwood and Dedham before Leblanc's car caught fire in the city's West Roxbury neighborhood.
The officer dragged by Leblanc's car, Matt Crown, was treated and released.
Crown, an Army veteran, has been with the Walpole Police Department for five years. He is a motorcycle officer and a member of the SWAT team.
Leblanc was represented during his arraignment by attorney Jacqueline Modiste; however, he may end up having a different attorney in the case.
