Thousands of runners turned out Sunday in Boston for one of the oldest races of its kind in the country.
Run to Remember Boston's half marathon and 5-mile races are dedicated to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The 13th annual race started at the Seaport World Trade Center, wound through the historic streets of the city, and crossed over the Charles River along Memorial Drive in Cambridge and then looped back.
An estimated 8,000 officers and first responders from across the country turned out to take part in both races as a show of support.
"Just like the holiday and members of our armed forces, members of our law enforcement are equally important to us," said Robert Boydston, of Holyoke, Massachusetts.
This year's race was dedicated to Watertown Firefighter Joseph Toscano who lost his life in the line of duty earlier this year.
"They just do so much for us. They don't get a lot of appreciation and it's just to have all of us here for them," said Leigh Daniels, of Northampton, Massachusetts.
