A construction worker died Saturday from injuries sustained in a gruesome accident in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
Fire officials said the accident happened at about 2 p.m. at site on Newtown Way where crews were installing a water line for a new home.
Sam Romanelli, a fellow worker, told necn that the 28-year-old victim was using a power saw to cut the pipe when the saw kicked back and hit him in the throat.
Romanelli said he immediately ripped off his jacket and safety vest and applied pressure to the cut until paramedics arrived.
"I stuffed it into his throat where the cut was and tried to apply pressure. We kept him upright and tried to keep the blood from coming out," Romanelli recalled, still in shock from the accident.
The worker was taken to a hospital in Plymouth where he later died from his injuries. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
OSHA was on the scene a short time later as part of the investigation.

"You try and watch out for it, but sometimes it is just unavoidable, and unfortunately it was unavoidable," said Romanelli.
