What's the latest on the efforts to bring the Olympic Games to Boston in 2024?
All cities that are placing a bid for the games are required to submit their plan in ten weeks.
Dan O'Connell, President of Boston 2024, joined NECN to share some of the plans, hurdles, and potential long lasting benefits.
O'Connell says that there are now four cities left, including Boston, on the U.S. list. He says due to the amount of colleges in Boston, housing for Olympic athletes would not be an issue.
In addition, there's strong support from the business community and local government, like Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
"We've been directed by the mayor to make sure that this is all about legacy," O'Connell began. "Not the Games as the final date, but how do the games prepare us for where Boston wants to be in 2030 or 2040? So, what kind of infrastructure expenditures might be accelerated by the games that would be of long-term benefit for economic growth and job development."
O'Connell said one major hurdle to getting the Games to Boston would be economical.
