Pamela Gardner

Pamela Gardner joined NBC10 Boston and NECN in December of 2018, and broadcasts weekdays on NBC at 11a.m., weather segments at 4 and 5 p.m., and on NECN afternoons and evenings.

Gardner previously worked at WBZ-TV and appeared on several national broadcasts including CBS Evening News. Prior to that, she worked at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was the weekend evening meteorologist. Before that, she was at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana as the weekday morning meteorologist, having started there as the weekend meteorologist immediately after college.

She began her career at WIPB-TV in Muncie, Indiana, and while there she was nominated for her first professional regional Emmy Award in college. She later was nominated for several New England Emmys, including for Weather-Anchor.

Gardner received her bachelor’s degree in telecommunications with a minor in meteorology from Ball State University and earned her Broadcast Meteorologist Certificate from Mississippi State University.  Later she earned her Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association in 2016 and continues education to keep that seal. Her expertise in severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, eventually led her to Norman, Oklahoma.  In 2017 she was selected as the first female and first New England representative for research in the Hazardous Weather Testbed, FACETs (Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats). This program supported the National Weather Service with rolling out a new probability-based tornado and severe thunderstorm warning system.  She was invited back to the National Weather Service in 2018 to experiment with the GOES-R satellite technology for severe weather warnings. She has traveled all across the Midwest and New England to share her love of forecasting with kids in school.

She enjoys the challenge of forecasting weather and decided to trade in the severe storms and tornadoes of the Midwest to experience the nor’easters of New England. She is thrilled to call Boston home, and when not at work, you can find Pamela, her husband, their young son, and their senior puggle, Champ Dogg, exploring everything New England has to offer... including anything sports or food related.  Her perfect day in New England is enjoying a hot summer day at the beach on the South Shore, or skimming along the water on her waverunner.

Showers and flurries this week, but will we have snow on Christmas?

We had a little taste of true winter in southwestern New England on Monday morning as a quick moving system passed south of us. Temperatures were cold enough to support 1-2 inches of snow in parts of western Massachusetts and Connecticut and a coating of snow in northern Rhode Island.   Even though it was cold enough for some snow, it wasn’t...

How much snow will we see in New England this winter?

We have an odd relationship with winter forecasts. On one hand, we know that it’s impossible to pin down three months of howling winds, snowstorms, freakish warmups, bitter blasts and an early/late arrival to spring, but we still want something — anything — that could give us a hint at what’s to come. Perhaps it gives us something to think...

TIMELINE, IMPACTS: When and where we could see snow Thanksgiving week

Our pattern has flipped and we now have a “cornucopia” of unsettled weather and precipitation types in our Thanksgiving outlook.  A strong low pressure system continues to meander across New England on Friday and through the weekend. By late Saturday into Sunday, the low is over the Canadian Maritimes but will still affect our weather pattern.  On Friday, our scattered rain...

Wintry chill arrives, temps in the teens and 20s overnight

A wintry chill has arrived on this Wednesday. For the first time in a long time, our temperatures remain below normal for lows and highs.  Boston, for reference, averages a high of 52 and a low of 39 for this date. Highs on Wednesday only top off in the 40s after morning lows dropped to the low 30s. In fact, Boston Logan International...

Icy Road Conditions Sunday Morning As Temperatures Continue to Fall

Temperatures continue to fall as the sky clears this evening. Overnight lows drop to the teens across the North Country and to the 20s everywhere else.  This means it will be icy again through morning along New England roads.   Our river flooding continues to improve in most river locations after a minor flood stage was reported this afternoon along the...

Mostly Dry Mother's Day to Follow Cold, Windy Saturday

We picked up a few inches of snow in northern New England!  The snow showers linger across eastern Maine through this evening. Other snow showers will develop due to upslope snowfall and squalls in the mountains.  Southern New England can expect sunshine, but pop up showers and clouds develop in the afternoon. Some of the clouds may produce graupel, or...

    Clear Weather Welcomes 2020

Average highs should be in the upper 30s while average lows are in the low 20s across New England and our temperatures were pretty close this afternoon.  Although with a gusty west wind, it did feel cooler.  The breeze sticks around for tonight into Thursday, but won’t be as strong as today.  This evening will be mainly dry, with...
