State police said three people were injured and taken to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
The crash, which was reported around 10:15 a.m., did cause some traffic delays, according to state police. All lanes were reopened by 3:30 p.m.
The investigation into the crash is active and ongoing, authorities said.
Initial investigation has determined that a maroon Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Scott Wein, of Loudon, was driving south just before the toll plaza when it crossed the median and briefly continued southbound in a northbound lane. As the pickup drove in the wrong direction and entered the lane furthest to the left on the northbound side of the highway, it struck a white BMW X3 head on.
Wein, along with the driver of the BMW, 68-year-old Peter Kemeny, of Quebec, Canada, and Kemeny's front seat passenger, 67-year-old Daphna Vermes, also of Canada, sustained significant injuries. All three were taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
No toll plaza workers were hurt.
Last Thursday, a man was killed in a fiery crash at the same toll plaza. A Mercedes SL 500 driving south struck a concrete barrier and burst into flames. The driver, identified by police as 52-year-old Scott Defreitas, of Nashua, was pulled from the vehicle by several witnesses and died at the scene. Several other crashes have been reported at the same toll plaza in recent months.
