A 61-year-old man was stabbed in Revere, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning, police said. A 26-year-old was arrested.

A 61-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed by his son in Revere, Massachusetts, police said.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. Thursday on Yeamans Street, Revere police said.

The 61-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, police said.

Jacob Mugo, the victim's 26-year-old son, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and was scheduled to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court Thursday, police said.

According to the police report, the victim suffered two stab wounds -- one on the left chest area and the other a slice laceration on his left abdomen.

The victim told police that he had been woken up by his son, who asked him for a cigarette lighter, and that there was no argument between them before Mugo stabbed him with a knife.

The victim's roommate told police that she was sleeping when she woke up to noises that sounded like someone running up and down the stairs. She said she then heard screaming and banging on her door. When she opened her door she saw the victim holding his chest, which was covered in blood, and he said, "My son, my son stabbed me, he stabbed me twice, call the Police." She said she immediately called 911 and waited for police to arrive.

Mugo later called the Revere police emergency line, telling them he was at an address in Everett waiting for an officer so he could explain his side of the story. Revere police arrived at that address and took custody of Mugo.
