(NECN: The Boss) - Two people, born and raised in Boston, but on separate paths, Laura Trust and Alan Litchman were just starting out on the journey of their lives. Their paths crossed at the MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston. Even though Alan is a little bit taller that Laura, a friendship started, and then the two married.
After working in various different businesses, they knew they wanted to eventually start their own. The couple bought Finagle a Bagel in 1998 and over ten years took the company from 4 cafes to 21, throughout Boston and the suburbs. But by 2008, Laura and Alan started to see a change in eating and buying habits.
Putting their MIT education to the test, Laura and Alan re-grouped and changed the focus of Finagle. They looked at their business and decided to build their wholesale division rather than expand the retail side.
Four years later and the new strategy has yielded big results with Finagle products now in more than half of all the states in the U.S. Finagle is today, the world’s best artisan bagel for some of the country’s finest retailers’ private label programs.
