Norwell, Mass. Teen Charged in Hit-and-run

(NECN: Brad Puffer, Hingham, Mass.) - A Norwell teen is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly driving into four other teens with a van.

Nathan Delaplain-Zook is now charged with four counts of attempted murder. The 18-year old teenager, a senior in high school, is now accused of running down four other teenagers in the parking lot of a Rockland, Massachusetts condominium

Lisa Christie:
"I just heard squeeling and thought it was gunfire that's how loud it was."

Lisa Christie, a medical assistant, lives just across the street. Christie says the three girls and a boy were hit late Monday afternoon while sitting on the side of the parking lot. All seriously injured by a white minivan Zook was allegedly driving.

Lisa Christie:
"Literally hitting them, driving over them, dragging them… The van hit them so hard their shoes flew off their flips flops flew off. The girls weren't egging them on at all."

Cheryl Gallagher:
"Kids chased the van when it went down behind the building then when it come out over there. I mean I see it up in the air then it came down and hit, just hit the ground. But I just went over and tried to help the girls out. Just tried to keep them calm."

Cheryl Gallagher says she can't understand why anyone would do something like this on purpose. According to police reports, the incident began when a large group of teens from Norwell and Rockland came to together, expecting they would see a fight between two boys over a girl.

Cheryl Gallagher:
"Purposefully aiming your vehicle at someone, what are you thinking? It's just unbelievable."

In court, Tuesday afternoon, a court psychologist testified that Zook has a history of mental illness, sometime hears voices and has anger management issues. But that psychologist also testified Zook did not hear those voices Monday and shows no signs of psychotic symptoms.
