(TV Diner) - Situated right in the center of hoppin' downtown West Hartford, comes Treva, a sophisticated little spot becoming known for their Northern Italian fare. Let's check it out.
The atmosphere at Treva is fun and lively, with the right half comprised of an ample bar and the left half and rear as dining areas. The décor is stark, a bit too much so, devoid of art and color. Let's hope the food shows a bit more flair.
The menu covers all the bases with meat, chicken, fish and pasta selections. We also noticed a separate menu with some pretty great happy hour specials and antipasti choices.
We started with the Gamberi, or proscuitto wrapped shrimp. Though tasty and tender, we were a bit disappointed at their diminutive size and the lackluster bed of greens they were served upon.
The Al Forno, a cheese fondue blend featuring a predominant Tallegio flavor, was rich and creamy served with perfect toast crisps. We loved this.
For our first entrée we went with Fileto, aka: the Filet Migon. Served with lovely roasted cauliflower and haricot verts, or, green beans, we found it to be melt-in-your-mouth perfect.
The Salmon was top notch. We were a bit saddened to see those formal green beans featured once again, however the cheesy polenta side was a hit.
The Dolce Chocolate was heavenly. Airy chocolate mousse was topped with a layer of deep, dark fudge, all based on a crisp chocolate wafer crust.
Local
The Pudingo was a dense, honey flavored custard served beside a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream and garnished with a berry medley. Fabulous.
Service was excellent at Treva. Our server, Stephen, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with all menu items.
We found the value to be very good with high quality ingredients and ample portions. Starters from $6-10, entrees from $14-30 desserts at $8.
Overall we rated Treva a silver plate for a good dining experience.
