South Boston Woman Abducted, Taken to Several ATMs, Killed in Hyde Park

(NECN/AP: Ally Donnelly) – Amy Lord was a 2007 graduate of Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham. The school's superintendent said she was an honors student and a varsity cheerleader. Lord graduated from Bentley University in 2011 with a degree in marketing.

A person walking through the in the 475-acre Stony Brook Reservation in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood spotted the woman's body in a wooded area at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the woman "appears to be the victim of a violent assault."

Suffolk County DA and Boston Police had a press conference Wednesday releasing some details of the case. They say she left her South Boston apartment Tuesday morning, was abducted, forced into her Jeep and then driven around to at least five ATM’s and forced to withdraw money.

At some point, she was taken to Stony Brook Reservation in the Hyde Park section of Boston where she was beaten and stabbed to death.

Police say the suspect or suspects lit her car on fire and abandoned it in a housing project in South Boston.

Police say they have photo and video surveillance of Amy Lord at these ATMs, but they would not comment on whether or not the suspect or suspects was seen on any of the surveillance evidence.

There have been two other assaults in South Boston. Both of them were brutal, and both victims described the same suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic man. That man was arrested Wednesday morning. Edwin Alemany, 28 years old of Boston, stands charged with assault with intent to murder. The DA, however, would not make a connection of those two assaults with the murder of Amy Lord.

Officials urged the people of Boston, especially South Boston, to be alert and to report any strange or threatening behavior.
