Taylor's Body Found in Trunk of Rental Car

(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Freetown, Mass.) - Andrew Taylor's murder remains a mystery.

He was found at a tow yard in the trunk of a car - and his friend has been charged with lying to police about what happened.

State police investigators in Tiverton, Rhode Island go in and out of a house - part of a homicide investigation that crossed state lines from southeastern Massachusetts.

Here's what we know:

An abandoned rental car was towed from Jones Street in Fall River, Mass. Friday, then brought to Big Wheels Towing in Freetown.

And that's when a body was found in the trunk.

Authorities confirm it was 25 year old Andrew Taylor, of Assonet, who they say had rented the car.

He was reported missing a week ago by his parents.

Bristol County, Massachusetts prosecutors have charged his friend 24 year old James Lapre, not with murder, but with lying to and misleading police.

A Rhode Island State Police Crime Scene Unit truck was parked at the Lapre family house in Tiverton Sunday.

Investigators have been on scene since Saturday night.

"I loved him like a son, yes I did, very much so," said Brenda Almeida of Fall River.

Taylor dated Almeida's daughter for three years.

Sitting with her own son Chad, she remembers Andy as responsible, respectful, and caring, and can't imagine why anyone would ever hurt him.

"I've been up since 5:30 yesterday morning, I couldn't sleep last night. I went to work today, cried all day long. That's all I do is cry and I still say they're going to call me up and say it was a mistake and it's not my Andy," she said.

A computer gaming student at Bristol Community College in Fall River since Fall 2006, Taylor was enrolled in two classes this semester.

"The computer information faculty are close knit. The president has already asked counseling to be on alert for that tomorrow, for students as well," said Sally Chapman Cameron, Bristol Community College Vice President of College Communications.

We spoke briefly with Andrew Taylor's father tonight.

He said it was too soon to talk about all of this.

Andrew Taylor's funeral is Wednesday.

James Lapre was arrested late Saturday night.

He is at the Bristol County House of Corrections and will be arraigned at Fall River District court Monday morning.
