A train collided with a truck in Haverhill on Monday, killing at least one person and shutting down a major road.

An Amtrak train hit a vehicle on the tracks near the station Monday in Haverhill, Massachusetts, leaving a man dead.

An 83-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after the pickup truck he was driving went through a gate on Rosemont Street and collided with the train around 12:45 p.m., the Essex County District Attorney's Office said Monday night.

The man, whose name has not been released, was the only person in the vehicle, authorities said.

After the crash, the truck could be seen nearby, flipped over against a tree near the tracks and a road crossing.

Everyone on board the train was uninjured, according to Amtrak.

The agency had initially said the train was stopped "due to a vehicle incident," then that it was a "vehicle crossing incident."
