A man accused in the stabbing of a tow truck driver in Boston's Allston neighborhood Thursday appeared in court Friday. But he didn't exactly face the judge.
The suspect, 40-year-old John Burgo, of Brockton, initially hid during his arraignment on Friday until the judge ordered him out from behind the door.
"I'm going to have Mr. Burgo come out. Can you come out?" the judge said.
Burgo then emerged with a blue long sleeve shirt tied around his head, completely obscuring his face.
Prosecutors say Burgo stabbed the victim, a 21-year-old tow truck driver for Brighton Towing -- in the chest and leg outside a restaurant on Cambridge Street in Allston while the victim was in his truck at a traffic light around 6 p.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive.
The victim's employer told NBC 10 Boston that their employee was driving the truck when the violent attack occurred.
"He was waiting for the green light, but in front of him there were four or six cars and I think he wasn’t moving," said Javier Rivas, the victim's employer at Brighton Towing. That's when, according to Rivas, someone opened the driver's door and began to stab the driver.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred a couple of days after the same two men were involved in a road rage incident. It's unclear if Thursday's violent attack was planned or if Burgo just happened to spot the victim after Tuesday's road rage incident.
Police ultimately tracked Burgo down in the Back Bay.
"The only thing I can do right now is pray," Rivas said. "Pray for God this doesn't happen again."
Burgo was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing next week.
The incident remains under investigation.
