Two men were killed and a third person was injured Wednesday morning in a 2-vehicle crash near a Massachusetts high school, according to police.
The fatal crash occurred at 4:05 a.m. on Granite Street in Braintree, about a block away from the high school campus.
Aerial footage from NBC Boston’s SkyRanger helicopter showed a pickup truck on the right side street and a car in the woods. The car appeared to have extensive damage to its front end, along with a shattered windshield. The pickup also sustained heavy front-end damage.
"A lot of people know each other in this town and it's kind of scary to think that someone I might know could be impacted by these deaths and that's really awful," Braintree High School student Delia Donovan said.
Police said the pickup was heading south when it collided with a car heading in the opposite direction.
Both occupants of the sedan died, one at the scene and the other at the hospital. The victims were later identified by police as 23-year-old Bryan Davila Martinez, and 20-year-old Jan Rivera, both of Randolph. It's unclear who was driving.
The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash occurred in the travel lane of the pickup truck, but police said the exact cause remains under investigation.
"That intersection is really, really busy and most of the time there is so much traffic going on but early in the morning I'm not sure what happened," said nearby worker Joranda Macaibay.
