The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says it's reviewing its contracts with a construction company after one of its employees was charged with driving under the influence and causing a crash that killed a 13-year-old girl.
Gregory Goodsell, 31, of Marshfield, Massachusetts faces manslaughter while driving drunk and other charges in connection with the crash Sunday in Pembroke.
Police said Goodsell was driving a truck for HiWay Safety Systems Inc., a construction company in Rockland, Massachusetts.
The transportation department said it requires contractors to adhere to strict standards of safety'' and it's reviewing the company's active contracts. The company was paid $4 million by the state in 2019, according to The Boston Globe.
Witnesses told police that Goodsell was speeding and ran a red light when he hit an SUV with a 50-year-old woman and two 13-year-old girls inside. All three suffered serious injuries and one of the girls, identified by police as Claire Zisserson, later died.
Goodsell was held at his arraignment in Plymouth District Court pending a hearing Friday to determine whether he is a danger to society. Goodsell told officers he drank beer and whiskey and did cocaine at a company holiday party, according to the police report.
Goodsell's father, Jay Goodsell, said his son could "never imagine hurting anyone" and said he feels bad for the victim's family.
