Firefighters battled a blaze in Stoneham, Massachusetts, on Friday morning.
The fire was first reported around 5:17 a.m. in a 2-story home on Gould Street when the residents called 911 and said they heard crackling upstairs and had lost power in part of the building.
Video from the scene showed smoke coming from the top of the building, and several windows that had been broken.
Fire officials said when they arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the attic of the home, and they found heavy flames inside as well.
While battling the fire, one firefighter's leg went through the roof, and at that point, fire crews went into a defensive operation because of concerns about the structural integrity of the building. They were eventually able to enter the home and open up ceilings on the second floor to attack the fire from below,, knocking down all of the flames by 6:15 a.m.
The family that lives in the home and all of their pets made it out safely. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
One firefighter suffered a leg injury while battling the blaze, but there were no other reported injuries.
The home appears to be a total loss, fire officials said.
Stoneham firefighters had just battled another blaze around 10 p.m. Thursday on Franklin Street. The resident was mostly able to smother the fire with towels before firefighters arrived to fully extinguish the blaze. The resident did suffer an injury while trying to put out a fire, but did not require hospitalization.
The cause of both fires remain under investigation, fire officials said.
