Drivers: Slow Down for Turtle Nesting Time in NH

It's turtle nesting season in New Hampshire, so wildlife biologists are asking drivers to keep an eye out and slow down if they see one crossing a road.

Turtle nesting season lasts from late May into early July, reaching its peak in early to mid-June.

Biologists say one of the most significant threats to turtle populations is being struck by vehicles on roads. While male turtles may occasionally travel over land to different wetlands, mature female turtles leave their home ponds and wetlands every spring to lay their eggs.

Drivers are asked to help a turtle cross a road if it's safe to do so, and not take it home.
