New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan has signed a proclamation declaring November as Carbon Monoxide Awareness month in the state.

State Fire Marshal William Degnan and New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs' president David Parenti want to warn residents about the dangers of carbon monoxide levels in homes.

Degnan says carbon monoxide is produced whenever any fuel such as gas, oil, kerosene, wood or charcoal is burned, and the potential for elevated levels exists during the winter.

In New Hampshire this year, there have been four fatalities due to carbon monoxide exposure.
