A driver was seriously hurt in a crash that temporarily closed the northbound side of Interstate 495 in Hopkinton on Thursday, officials said.
A wrecked SUV and damaged box truck were visible on either side of the highway at the scene, near Exit 58, in the incident Massachusetts State Police said was reported about 2 p.m.
The box truck was believed to have hit a guard rail, then crossed back across the road and hit the SUV, which rolled over. The SUV's driver rolled over on its side, and its driver was seriously hurt.
That half of the highway was briefly closed, though one regular travel lane was reopened as of 4:30 p.m. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation described the incident as a rollover crash.
Northbound traffic was backed up for miles. State police said that several cars ran out of fuel in the traffic jam and had to be helped off the road.
