New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say it's about time for residents to take down birdfeeders to keep the bears away from looking for food.
Officials recommend that the bird feeders be removed by March 15 in southern New Hampshire, and by April 1 in the northern part of the state.
The department says black bears are coming out of their dens with depleted fat reserves and will be very hungry; they went into dens in the winter in poor condition due to a lack of natural food sources.
