Heavy flames tore through a triple-decker in Brockton, Massachusetts, early Friday morning, a scene that was captured on a nearby doorbell camera.
The Brockton Fire Department received a call just after 7 a.m. for a fire on Tribou Street and responded to the home to find heavy fire on the second and third floors. There were reports of people trapped on the top floor, prompting a search by fire crews, but no one was located. All four occupants of the home had already made it out safely, fire officials said.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with a minor injury.
Large flames and plumes of smoke could be seen pouring out of the building Friday morning. According to fire officials, the blaze was stubborn, though it was knocked down quickly. The old building had layers of shingling.
Fire officials said there was extensive damage left behind, but the structure would likely be able to be rebuilt. Crews said Friday that they'd be on scene for a while and they were still working to extinguish any remaining hot spots as of 8:30 a.m.
A neighbor nearby says he heard the commotion and quickly ran to help.
Khalifallah St-Cyr tells NBC10 Boston that he helped rescue a man from the burning home. The 21-year-old say he went into the house but couldn't make it up the stairs to the second floor, but he called out and was able to help guide the man with his voice to help him make it out of the smoke-filled home.
"I definitely didn't think twice about it, my blood was pumping," he recalled. "Once I heard someone was in the building, I knew I knew what had to be done, so I went ahead and did it."
The Red Cross will assist the four residents of the home who were displaced.
The fire's cause has not yet been determined, the chief said. An investigation is ongoing.
