Police: Man Sexually Assaulted 73-Year-Old Woman at Gunpoint

Police have arrested a 32-year-old Waterville, Maine, man after they say he broke into the home of a 73-year-old woman and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint this past weekend.

The Morning Sentinel reports Mark Daniel Halle was charged Sunday night with felony counts of gross sexual assault, burglary and aggravated assault among other offenses.

He's being held on $225,000 bail. It's unclear if he's retained an attorney.

Halle was apprehended following a 20-hour police investigation after a 911 call was placed by the victim around 5 a.m. detailing the attack.

Police say officers arrived at the West River Road home and were able to follow a trail of footprints to Halle.

Despite her injuries, police say the victim called to thank the officers for their assistance Sunday afternoon.
