Former Hudson fire chief dies after being pulled from lake in Stow

A former Hudson, Massachusetts fire chief has been identified as the man who died Saturday after falling into Lake Boon, the town's fire department confirmed.

Authorities say Frederick Dusseault, 70, of Stow, was pulled from the water shortly after 11:30a.m. First responders saw Dusseault being helped by a bystander when they arrived. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Dusseault worked at the Hudson Fire Department for more than 30 years.

"His legacy of service, leadership and unwavering commitment to our community will never be forgotten," Hudson Fire Chief Jamie Desautels said in a written statement. "Chief Dusseault was a respected leader who dedicated his life to serving others. His passing is a profound loss for all who knew him."

Dusseault joined the Hudson Fire Department as a provisional firefighter in 1973 and worked his way up the ranks to become the Chief of the department, which he served as from 2000 to 2006.
