Police: 14-Year-Old Girl Was Texting During Bike Crash

A 14-year-old girl has been airlifted to a Boston hospital after riding a bicycle into oncoming traffic Sunday morning in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Police say the child was heading downhill and rode into the line of traffic around 11:15 a.m. Initial investigation reveals that the teen was texting while pedaling on Barrington Street. She made a left turn without stopping onto South Whipple Street where she was struck.

The girl was transported by MedFlight helicopter. She remains in serious but stable condition at Boston Medical Center and is expected to survive.

The vehicle was being operated by 21-year-old Rithy Poth of Lowell. No charges are expected against Poth, but the crash remains under investigation.
