Two young boys and their father were rescued after they were stranded at sea for more than half a day.

A father and his two young children were rescued overnight after going missing at sea for more than half a day.

The Coast Guard said 38-year-old Mike Ryan and his two children, ages 5 and 6, were found safe in their boat sometime before 4 a.m. Monday off Scituate, Massachusetts. They disappeared at about 10 am. Sunday as they headed to Provincetown from Plymouth on a fishing trip, the Coast Guard said.

It was unclear how the family’s 20-foot Wellcraft ended up in waters off Scituate. The Coast Guard took them back to shore as crews from Point Allerton worked to tow their disabled boat.

Ryan and his children were uninjured, the Coast Guard said.
