Man Struck, Killed by Garbage Truck in Ware, Massachusetts

The victim was working in a yard at the time of the incident

A man was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Ware, Massachusetts, on Thursday morning.

According to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, the man was struck by the garbage truck while working in a yard on Church Street around 9:30 a.m.

The driver of the garbage truck was taken to Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, where he died. On Friday, authorities identified the victim as 62-year-old Stephen F. Peters of Hardwick, Mass.

In additoin to hitting Peters, the truck struck and downed a utility pole when its driver lost control and drove off the road.

The garbage truck's driver was treated for minor injuries.

The incident is under investigation.
