Gloucester, Massachusetts, Police Officer Hurt in Head-on Crash

Officer Kevin Muise was seriously injured when his cruiser was hit by an allegedly drunken driver

A Gloucester, Massachusetts, police officer is expected to recover after getting seriously injured when his cruiser was struck head-on by an allegedly drunken driver.

Chief Leonard Campanello says Officer Kevin Muise suffered neck injuries in the crash early Saturday morning.

The driver of the other vehicle was identified as 39-year-old Joseph Loiacano. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on charges including operating under the influence of alcohol, third offense and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Police say Loiacano had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and was uncooperative with authorities.

A cab driver told police he saw Loiacano driving at a high rate of speed on the wrong side of the road shortly before the crash.
