The police department in Webster, Massachusetts, is responding after a video of an officer allegedly parking in a handicap space has circled social media.
On the way out of a McDonald's on East Main Street months ago, a police the officer was confronted by a citizen who believed that the officer was parked in a handicap spot. This person was recording the confrontation on his cell phone.
McDonald's had recently removed the posted signage and painted over the symbol in that particular spot, according to the police department. However, New England weather has made the old symbol somewhat visible.
As the video has circulated in recent months, the Webster Police Department has received multiple complaints. They say they received calls from across the country about the incident.
"This matter was dealt with several months ago last fall, but the citizen has now posted the video online and we are getting inundated with phone calls and posts saying that we are above the law. I will admit the cruiser is parked crooked in the parking spot, but I hardly think that is worthy of all this attention to include people wishing we were dead. I would like to take this moment to thank all of you that do support us and stand by us, and I realize that this is only a handful of negative posters out there," the department said in a statement through their Facebook page.
The police officer was picking up meals for prisoners when the incident occurred, according to the department.
