Expect Heavy Traffic During Route 128 Construction This Weekend

The southbound side of 128 and Highland Avenue will close at 8 p.m. tonight

Construction crews continue to demolish the Highland Avenue Bridge in Needham, Massachusetts, which has forced traffic to be re-routed throughout the weekend.

Expect major delays on Route 128 throughout the weekend as construction crews work to demolish Highland Avenue Bridge in Needham, Massachusetts.

The southbound side of the highway will close from 8 p.m. on Saturday to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

A bypass road will be set up by crews, but highway officials were warning of three mile back ups. Twenty-four police officers will be on site to help with traffic.

The northbound side of 128 and Highland Avenue had been closed at 8 p.m. on Friday through Saturday morning. Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials said crews finished demolition on the east portion of the bridge several hours ahead of schedule and were able to remove the detour by 11:40 a.m.

Highway officials said that all construction should be finished before the Monday morning commute.
