Want a sneak peek at what the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has in store for the Red Line? Consider your wish granted.
Jacquelyn Goddard, communications director for MassDOT, released a photograph of a "mock-up" car that might just replace the entire fleet. Engineers are evaluating the prototype as a possibility of the train’s new cars.
Officials voted in 2016 to buy 134 new Red Line cars in an effort to expand capacity. They estimate that the entire fleet will be in service by September 2023.
A public viewing of the "mock-up" will be available from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Boston City Hall Plaza.
