Police at the Broadway MBTA Red Line station in Boston on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, after a report of a shooting.

A teenager was arrested nearly a week after a shooting on a T platform in Boston, MBTA Transit Police said Friday.

The man was shot in his lower extremities at the Red Line's Broadway Station about 5:30 p.m., but was expected to survive, transit police have said. A witness told NBC10 Boston the man was shot in the leg.

Police shut down rail service as they searched for the shooter, but no arrests were made in the wake of the incident — until Thursday, when a 16-year-old male was taken into custody at his home, police said.

A gun was recovered during the arrest, according to police, who didn't name the teenager.

A man was shot on a platform at the Broadway Red Line stop in South Boston.

The teenager was arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on firearm-related charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. He was held without bail and due back in court Tuesday.

Gunshots were reported at the station about 5:33 p.m., and the wounded man, a 23-year-old who'd been shot in the thight, was taken to a hospital, according to prosecutors.

The incident involved two groups who boarded the same northbound train, prosecutors said. Surveillance video showed the shooter's group get on the train, followed by the victim's. The first group got off as a train pulled in on the other side of the station, letting out passengers, and the victim's group followed, heading back toward the stairs.

That's when the 16-year-old now facing charges can be seen pulling a gun out of his waistband and pointing it down the platform, then fleeing, according to prosecutors. A flattened bullet was found on the train platform.

Police were still working to identify the other three males in the group as of Friday.

Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden thanked MBTA Transit Police in a statement Friday, adding, "This was a very chaotic scene with multiple station closures and shuttling of passengers. I am grateful the injuries sustained by the victim are not life-threatening and that no other passengers were hurt."
