A 16-year-old boy is dead after a shooting at a massive house party in Northborough, Massachusetts, early Sunday morning.

Another teenager was shot but is expected to survive, according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early. Three people were arrested from the chaotic scene on Howard Street.

A person flagged down officers and reported someone brandishing a firearm near the home, according to Early. Police heard gunshots as they approached the property, which they said had about 300 people inside it.

Multiple people are in custody due to the incident.

Multiple people were injured. The 16-year-old, from Bellingham, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Early said.

A 17-year-old was shot and has since been released from the hospital, Early said, and two other people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Other people with injuries refused to be treated at the scene.

The three people arrested are facing firearm charges, according to Early. The investigation was Sunday afternoon.

The people arrested, who haven't been identified, are set to be arraigned on Monday at Westboro District Court.

"It's Mother's Day, and a mother lost her 16-year-old" said Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.

NBC10 Boston spoke to a neighbor who has lived here for about 30 years. He says traffic has increased in the quiet neighborhood and there have been a lot of house parties here over the last couple of weeks, with cars revving their engines down the street.

He woke up at 3 a.m. to a call from police telling people in the neighborhood to stay inside.

"So far the response has been intense -- police chopper overhead," Brian Braveman said.
