NH Joins States Suing Family Over Purdue Pharma

New Hampshire has filed a lawsuit against the family that owns OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma as part of an effort to address the opioid epidemic.

Including New Hampshire, at least six states have sued members of the Sackler family in September. New Hampshire, which was among the states that rejected a Purdue/Sackler settlement proposal, also had filed a separate complaint against Purdue.

The company filed for bankruptcy as it works on a multibillion-dollar settlement to resolve thousands of lawsuits.

The attorney general's office said in a news release the complaint filed Monday is based on accusations the family "served as the primary architects and beneficiaries of Purdue Pharma's deceptive and unlawful promotion and distribution of their opioid products in New Hampshire."

A spokesperson for the Sackler family said denied the allegations in a brief emailed statement.
