New Hampshire State Police say an inmate escaped Tuesday and barricaded himself in a room with a knife in Concord before being arrested.
The standoff began around 3 p.m. at the state office complex on Pleasant Street, where administrative offices are located in several buildings.
Police were initially tight-lipped about what had occurred, initially saying only that the public should avoid the area due to an "active police incident within a building." They later said a person was in custody and the situation was resolved.
Tuesday night, state police explained that an escaped inmate, identified as 33-year-old Tad Emerson, had been arrested after about five hours of negotiations.
Emerson, a minimum-security resident of a work program with the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, has been returned to the custody of prison officials.
Police say Emerson is facing charges of being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
Emerson is expected to be arraigned at an unspecified date, police said. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
