20-year-old killed in Route 3 crash in Kingston

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Ruley of Plymouth.

One person is dead after their car crashed into the woods overnight in Kingston, Massachusetts.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz announced 20-year-old Benjamin Ruley, of Plymouth, suffered fatal injuries in the single-car crash that occurred shortly after midnight on Route 3 North.

According to the DA's office, Massachusetts State Police received a phone call around 12:23 a.m. Sunday from state 911 via a Mercedes crash alert, advising troopers that there was a crash involving a Mercedes Benz near Exit 17 on Route 3.

Responding troopers saw damage to the exit sign and skid marks into the woods but didn't immediately see a vehicle that had crashed, officials said. It wasn't until a trooper went into the woods and saw taillights that they discovered the damaged Mercedes.

First responders, including Kingston Police and Fire departments, found the driver and sole occupant as they approached the vehicle, officials said. He was pronounced dead on scene and later identified as Ruley.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known. It remains part of the ongoing investigation by state and local police.
