A 19-year-old was fatally stabbed early Saturday in Brockton, Massachusetts, and an 18-year-old has been charged with his murder.
Brockton police received a 911 call shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday from a resident reporting the stabbing of a male family member at a residence on Foster Street, the Plymouth District Attorney's Office said. Police and emergency medical personnel responded and found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The man, later identified as 19-year-old Kyre Ambrose, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police arrested 18-year-old Jayden Fernandez at Newton Wellesley Hospital, where they learned he was being treated for a hand injury. He was arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder.
Ambrose was killed at his mother's house. Prosecutors said in court Monday that she had gone to bed just before midnight and woke around two hours later to the sound of her son yelling for help.
"When she went downstairs, she saw a male on top of her son, apparently punching him," Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Dan Higgins said.
Brockton police and state police investigated the incident, canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance video.
As a result of their investigation, the district attorney's office said investigators developed probable cause to arrest 18-year-old Jayden Fernandez. They learned that Fernandez was being treated at Newton Wellesley Hospital for a hand injury, and he was taken into custody there.
He pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge Monday in Brockton District Court, prosecutors said.
The investigation is ongoing, the district attorney's office said.
