A man was stabbed near an apartment complex in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood, apparently walking himself to a nearby pediatric hospital.
A stabbing late Wednesday morning in Boston's Brighton neighborhood shocked people in the area, with the wounded man checking himself in to a pediatric hospital.
Officers temporarily shut down a section of Camelot Court and Warren Street while they searched the area for evidence and interviewed potential witnesses.
The 34-year-old man who was stabbed near an apartment complex about 11:48 a.m. managed to walk around the corner to check in to the Franciscan Children’s Hospital, asking for help, police said.
Passerby Thomas Bersani noticed a trail of blood along the sidewalk.
“It was surprising, just a shock, because I’m walking into a crime scene!” he said. “I saw the blood trail and I told hospital security and I pointed it out to the police when they showed up.”
Access to the apartments on Camelot Court was restricted for several hours, keeping Stebhan Lbov from being able to go home.
“That’s crazy, he said. “It’s the first time I've see something like this here in this neighborhood.”
The Kennedy Day School, attached to the pediatric hospital, let out early as a result of the stabbing.
“They just said, ‘Get out of here,’ and I didn’t know why initially. And then I heard it was because of this stabbing that had gone on,” said Kennedy Day School teaching assistant Hannah Smucker.
Senia Alfaro was relieved her son was safe when she picked him up from school.
“I got a message from school saying that something happened in the morning, somebody was wounded, and so that’s the reason we have to pick up our kids,” she said.
Police spent several hours searching the area along with K-9 dogs, placing more than a dozen evidence markers on the ground and photographing the scene. Officials said no arrests had been made and were not able to confirm the status of the stabbing victim as of Wednesday afternoon.
The stabbing left people in the area with a sense of unease.
“Honestly, it’s the first time this happened in this area, so I’m nervous about it,” said Lbov.
