Man shot dead, suspected shooter arrested in Portland, Maine

Portland police haven't said what they suspect led to the shooting

A man was fatally shot in Portland, Maine, on Monday and another man arrested, police said.

Edgar Cando, 31, was shot multiple times near the intersection of Portland and Adler streets just before 5:30 p.m. and pronounced dead after being rushed to Maine Medical Center, according to police.

By 9 p.m., another Portland resident, Omar Abd Elkader, was arrested at Portland police headquarters, officials said. The 21-year-old was booked on a murder charge.

It wasn't immediately clear if Elkader had an attorney who could speak to his arrest, and police haven't said what they suspect led to the shooting.
