A suspicious death investigation is underway Tuesday in Littleton, New Hampshire, where a man was killed in an overnight shooting after allegedly chasing another man in his car.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella initially had very little information on what happened, saying only that his office was responding to a scene in Littleton to investigate an adult male's death but that there was no known threat to the general public.
Later Tuesday, authorities announced further details about what allegedly transpired, saying it started when 911 received a call around 11:10 p.m. Monday asking for assistance from a man who said he was being chased in his car.
The 911 caller told the dispatcher that his car had been repeatedly struck, and he was driving through the streets trying to get away from the car pursuing him, according to a joint news release from Formella, New Hampshire State Police Col. Mark Hall and Littleton Police Chief Paul Smith.
A few minutes into the call, gunshots could be heard, officials say.
Police officers who had been dispatched to find the cars found them stopped after an apparent collision in the vicinity of 33 Pleasant Street, in Littleton. The 911 caller was waiting for police at the scene, officials say, and a second man was suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.
The 911 caller told police that the injured man was the one who had been chasing him and striking his car, officials said. The injured man was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

He was identified later Tuesday as Eric Rexford, 38, a Littleton resident who'd been shot multiple times.
Investigators said both men were known to each other, and reiterated that there was no known threat to the public. Part of the investigation was whether or not Rexford was shot in self-defense.
Officials asked for help from Littleton residents who saw or heard a car collision on either Union or Cottage streets Monday night.
