A man was critically injured in a stabbing in the central Maine town of Palmyra, Maine State Police said Friday.

State Police said they and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office were called to a home on Madawaska Road and found the victim with serious injuries. He was taken Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

They said the road was closed to traffic for much of the day. Police say there is no known danger to the public.
