27-year-old arrested in Maine after people were robbed, threatened at 3 churches

Maine State Police say the robberies and threats happened in Parsonsfield, Cornish, and Baldwin.

A man allegedly robbed or threatened people at several different churches in Maine on Sunday morning before he led police on a chase and was later arrested.

State police say it all started around 10:07 a.m. when a woman called 911 from a church parking lot at 213 Federal Road in Parsonsfield to say a man threatened to kill her. He reportedly talked about having a gun but did not show one before he took off in a silver Subaru and almost struck a pedestrian as he headed east towards Cornish.

As state troopers and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office headed to the area to look for the man, a state police sergeant was flagged down around 10:30 a.m. on Route 25 by a man who said the suspect pulled a gun on him in the parking lot of a church at 37 Main Street in Cornish and demanded his wallet.

Less than an hour later, around 11:19 a.m., the man allegedly went into another church at 1006 Pequawket Trail in Baldwin, took money from the offering plate and then grabbed a woman’s purse as he fled the church. Police say he did not show a gun during this robbery, either.

Around 11:45 a.m., police say sheriff's deputies located the man's car near Bliss Road in Baldwin and began pursuing him to Route 107 and then towards Route 25 before he turned around and headed back north.

The man was seen waving a gun inside his vehicle during the pursuit and intentionally swerved his car at others on Route 107, according to police, who say no other cars were hit and there were no reported injuries.

The man's car went off the roadway and into a field when police used a PIT maneuver, and he then abandoned his car and took off, police said. He was quickly found and taken into custody.

Police have identified him as 27-year-old Connor McGlone of Auburn, Maine, previously of New Hampshire. He had three active warrants at the time of this incident for a robbery in February, a probation revocation from a prior robbery, and felony theft in March.

McGlone was transported to Bridgton Hospital for evaluation and will be taken to York County Jail once he's released, police said. He has been charged with two counts of robbery, and police said additional charges are expected as their investigation continues.

It was not immediately clear if McGlone had an attorney who could speak to the charges.

Anyone who may have had close contact with McGlone's car as he allegedly swerved on the road to escape police on Sunday is asked to contact police at 207-624-7076.
