The body of an infant was found at a regional cycling facility in Rochester, Massachusetts, on Thursday, prosecutors said Friday, asking for the public's help finding the mother.
Authorities identified the child as a baby girl on Saturday. She was found by employees at Zero Waste Solutions located on 50 Cranberry Highway in Rochester.
State police say the baby girl was found within a trash collection that appears to have originated from Martha's Vineyard and was shipped to the Rochester location.
The Cape and Island District Attorney's Office said in a statement that the newborn's "mother may live on, have ties to, or recently travelled to" the island.

Officials said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has begun post-mortem examination of the baby. The results will not be released at this time.
A representative for the district attorney's office declined to share more information Friday night, citing the ongoing investigation.
Massachusetts has had a baby safe haven law since 2004 that allows parents to surrender newborn infants 7 days old or younger at a hospital, police station or staffed fire station without facing criminal prosecution.
